Who are the Kentucky Bootleggers?
The core bootleggers are Jenrose Fitzgerald and Helen Odehnal, who have played together in this incarnation since 2004. Jenrose is the primary singer/ songwriter, spinning stories about anything from bad boy blues guys to rebel drummer girls to childhood basketball stars. Helen adds bass, percussion, harmonica, style and humor to the mix, as well as technical finesse in the operation of the audio-visual materials through which these stories are brought to life. Their style can be described as home-grown, Kentucky fried FOLK-ON-THE-ROCKS.
Through song and visual images, the Kentucky Bootleggers introduce you to a range of characters that include tobacco farmers, drag kings, belly dancers, blues musicians, and other ordinary folk who populate their lives. Jenrose and Helen are sometimes joined by additional “honorary bootleggers” for particular performances.
Their motto: “Good music is like moonshine: Every batch is different, but whatever the mix, you are sure to go away intoxicated.”
