Jenrose: Music

Work of Art

(Jenrose)
I drove by your house today
Turned my head as I passed your drive
It's been years since you moved away
But I still picture you inside

Working at the potter's wheel
Stitching up a linen dress
Pulling weeds while planting seeds
Always mending while you rest

High up in that Ginkgo tree
I used to look out on your yard
And it always seemed to me
To be a work of art

When I was a little child
You were like an aunt to me
Always by my mother's side
Coffee, tea and sympathy

Talking by the "wailing wall"
Baking bread and making plans
Sitting in that settle chair
That you made with your own hands

Thread and thimble, wood and clay
You gave them all your heart
It seemed like everything you touched
Became a work of art

I drove by your house today
Turned my head as I passed your drive
It's been years since you moved away
But I still picture you inside

And sometimes when the air is still
I hear your voice rise through the hills
Singing like a mockingbird
Ringing like that dinner bell

One thing that I learned from you
That I will always take to heart
Is the way you live your life
Like it's a work of art

Like it's a work of art
Oh and it's a work of art...
